The island of Trinidad is the larger of the two which make up the pair of islands in the province of Trinidad and Tobago. It is the most Southerly island in the Caribbean and the fifth largest in the West Indies. From beautiful beaches to bountiful wildlife, busy city centers and colorful festivals, Trinidad has something for everyone. Whether you are looking for a budget hostel or a luxury hotel Trinidad will be able to cater to your needs, with everything from beachfront hideaways to city center business hotels, there is something for everyone somewhere on the island.

The island is a hub of economy and investment for the Caribbean, with its main income streams being related to energy and manufacturing. Over the years these have attracted high investment and the settlement of high profile banking and financial institutes in the city as well as some of the hubs of large businesses including Unilever, British Gas and Citibank.

Despite its small size, the island hosts many high profile events and conventions, including in 2007 the Cricket World Cup. There are other regular sporting events throughout the year as a spectator or to participate in. For a real party atmosphere, the islands carnival and Trinidad's national festival light up the streets with colorful costume and dance. As well as carnival, the island celebrates numerous festivals over the year, demonstrating the truly diverse and multicultural nature of the islands people. From Divali to Eid, all religions and cultures will find a place to celebrate on the island.

Over the years the island has hosted some high profile conventions and exhibitions and has been developing plenty of high quality conferencing facilities and exhibition space across the city. As the business community has moved into Trinidad, so the hotel facilities have grown to accommodate the business traveler. For visitors on working trips looking for a business oriented city center hotel Trinidad now boasts excellent business hotels with meeting rooms, office suites and communications equipment to use.

The capital of Trinidad, Port of Spain, is home to hundreds of high end shops to explore, from designer clothing to electrical stores. Multi level shopping malls offer comprehensive selections of high street shops to explore and out on the streets the numerous fabric merchants offer huge ranges of textiles for all occasions. In the smaller towns around the island, plenty of interesting craft and knick knack shops offer visitors opportunities to purchase unique souvenirs and interesting local crafts at bargain prices.

Around the island there are plenty of attractions and sights to visit. Fort George is a popular tourist attraction, set high on the hills overlooking Port of Spain and giving stunning views across the city. The fort houses ancient cannons, military memorabilia and some interesting dungeons to explore.

In the Port of Spain, the Queens Park Savannah is one of the largest green spaces in the city and is home to the Emperor Valley Zoo and the cities Botanical Gardens. Nearby the Kings Bay Waterfall on the outskirts of the tropical rainforest is a stunning tropical paradise and Nylons Pool at the foot of the waterfall is an azure blue pool of cooling waters, perfect for a refreshing dip.

All over Trinidad there are opportunities to get out and explore the wonderful scenery of the island. Hiking trails passing through the rainforest and into the Northern Mountain Range offer everything from a relaxing stroll to a challenging trek. Exciting native wildlife inhabits the rainforest, mangroves and savannah and from May to September hundreds of marine turtles make their way onto the beaches at night to lay eggs.

Rivers running through the rainforests at the foot of the mountains offer opportunities to enjoy a leisurely kayak through the jungle or for the thrill seekers there are companies offering everything from white water rafting to caving around the island. If your idea of a vacation is less energetic than this, then the miles of clean sandy beaches the island has to offer will not fail to impress.

However you choose to spend your time on this fascinating island, you can be assured of a warm reception and comfortable surroundings whilst you stay there. Whether you are looking for a city or country hotel Trinidad has some of the most well equipped and spacious hotel rooms in the Caribbean.
